Aquatastic

Swim, sail, and slip and slide your way through this exciting week at camp! You’ll spend your time enjoying all things water with plenty of time to canoe, kayak, or sail on Big Pond, explore the wetlands, and plan and host an all-camp water carnival. Participants will be continuallly assessed by our trained lifeguards. Certain boating activities require intermediate swimming skills equivalent to Red Cross Level 2 (ability to swim 20 yards, tread water for one minute, feel comfortable in and around water over your head). All participants will be allowed to canoe, if they choose.

Experience the thrill of the climb! You’ll hit the road for a day at a rock climbing gym and go on another adventure to conquer your fear of heights at a local high ropes course. Have fun and climb on, all with experienced instructors. No previous experience required.

Practice pitching a tent, starting a fire, and lacin' up those boots before you head out of camp. Your group will start by exploring camp trails then plan your off-camp trips. You'll take a one-day hiking adventure and a second trip to hike and stay overnight at a nearby campground. Throughout the week, you'll work toward your Junior Camper badge. Participants should bring broken-in hiking boots and a comfortable backpack/day pack. Must be able to hike 3-5 miles per day carrying a 5-10 pound pack.

Campfire Chefs

Do you love making your own tasty creations? Learn all about cooking indoors and out. Tour the industrial kitchen and learn what it takes to plan a menu for all of camp. At the campfire circle, you’ll cook with a box oven, pie iron, dutch oven, and more. You will, of course, have time for your favorite camp activities as well.

Outdoors and S'mores

If you want a little of everything and the very best that Camp Bonnie Brae has to offer, this one’s for you. Spend your time swimming, boating, cooking out, shooting archery, playing games, making crafts, singing songs, and much more! And of course, roast a s’more over the campfire.

Extreme Foresters
Session 5: August 3 - 8

Make shelters, purify water, and read the signs in the trees – that’s just the start of your outdoor survival fun. The challenge is on when you follow clues on an Enchanted Forest scavenger hunt. You will be staying in the primitive Enchanted Forest (EF) unit for this program.

The EF is a beautiful primitive unit on the shores of Big Pond. It is on camp property, but a 15-20 minute hike from what we call "Main Camp" (where the Dining Hall and other camp buildings are located). There are platform tents with cots and mosquito netting, just like CBB's other tent units. Water for hand washing, tooth brushing, cooking, and drinking is brought to the unit by boat in clean water jugs and replenished throughout the week. Camper luggage will be brought to and from the unit by boat on opening and closing day. There will be space in a main camp building for girls to store shower supplies if they choose to do so. Participants should bring a comfortable day pack. Parents and families will not be permitted to walk to the EF on check-in day, but may plan extra time at pick-up to walk out with their camper.

Star Chasers

The Perseid Meteor shower is at its peak this week! What a perfect opportunity to stay up late and enjoy shooting stars, night hikes, and late night cooking. You’ll sleep in before enjoying swimming, archery, and other great camp activities in the daylight.

For Girls Entering Grades 6-8

Appalachian Trail Trekkers
Session 1: July 6 - 11

Lace up your boots; you’ll learn the how-tos of backpacking as you hike the Appalachian Trail in the Berkshires. Carry your supplies and camp along the trail for one or two nights. Your group will plan and prepare meals, learn to use a backpacking stove, and read a topographic map. Bring your own backpack and sleeping pad or borrow them from camp. Trip route and duration will be decided by Camp Director and Trip Director after assessing the abilities of the group through preparation activities. Participants should bring broken-in hiking boots and must be able to hike 5-10 miles per day carrying a pack 15-20% of their body weight. It is recommended to have participated in Day Trekkers or have similar experience.

Carabiner Crew

Spend the week perfecting your climbing skills. Conquer Bonnie Brae’s team challenge course before heading off-camp to rock climb with professional instructors. You’ll also zipline among the treetops on a canopy tour. Back at camp, make time for swimming, archery, a cookout, and more. Participants must be able to hike two miles carrying a day pack and climbing gear (10-15 pounds). It is recommended to have participated in On Belay or have similar experience. Our zip line vendor requires participants to be over 70 pounds.

Living off the Land

The Amazing Race and Survivor collide in this fast-paced, two-week session at camp. Follow clues around camp and take part in challenges like fire building, blindfolded tent pitching, and canoe races across Big Pond. Bring a guitar of your own or use one of ours. You will have lessons every day and still get to take part in all the other fun at camp.

The most hard-core survivor program at Camp Bonnie Brae! You’ll cook most of your meals over the campfire, build outdoor shelters (and choose to sleep in them, if you’re up for it), build a no-match fire, and learn other survival skills. Make sure you come with arms to paddle because you’ll only be permitted to canoe or kayak out of the Enchanted Forest (EF).

Spend your first week planning your route and your meals, then head out on a multi-day hike in the Adirondack Mountains of eastern New York. Bring your own hiking pack and sleeping pad or borrow them from camp. Participants should have overnight backpacking experience, bring broken in hiking boots, and must be able to hike 5-10 miles per day carrying a pack 20% of their body weight.

The ultimate up-all-night session! Stargazing, night hikes and midnight snacks over the campfire will become your specialty as you stay up late and sleep in the next day. During this session, the Perseid Meteor shower will be at its peak, so look skyward for shooting stars. You will still have time to participate in all of the great daytime activities at camp, too.

Can’t choose between Green Eyrie and Bonnie Brae? You don’t have to! Discover and experience the very best of both camps during this special two-week session. You’ll spend your first week at CGE then head southwest to spend your second week at CBB. During your stay at both camps you’ll learn a little bit about what it takes to be on staff, practice leadership skills, and work with some younger campers at camp. If you’re thinking about doing CIT at either camp this program is the place to start. Check-in will be at Camp Green Eyrie in Harvard on July 20 and pick-up will be at Camp Bonnie Brae in East Otis on August 1.

Learn all of the skills needed to work with children in the camp setting, then put your new skills to the test when you intern with a camper group. Staff members will be your role models and guides, helping to teach you all you need to know. Among your training sessions, you’ll still make time for all of the fun that camp has to offer. CIT I Participants will stay at camp, including weekends, July 13-August 1, then return for their intern session August 3-8.
