Camp Laurel Wood, a day camp in Spencer (July 1 – 5, July 22 – Aug. 10)*
* Staff hired to work at Laurel Wood will be the same staff hired to work at neighboring Hickory Hill. This is possible because the two camps will not be operating the same weeks. We are operating camp at Hickory Hill from July 8–July 19, and at Laurel Wood from July 22- Aug. 10. Staff training week (July 1-5) will primarily take place at Camp Laurel Wood.
Open Positions
Counselors
Work directly with girls, getting groups to their activities, engaging in activities, providing encouragement, ensuring safety and providing fun with a leadership development purpose. Serve as a role model.
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability in youth programming
- Energetic team-players with a sense of responsibility
- Must be at least 18 by Aug. 1, 2013
Unit Leaders (CBB & CGE only)
Supervise and work directly with girls, engaging in activities, ensuring safety and providing fun with a leadership development purpose. Help coordinate and implement activities. Provide conflict resolution and problem solving support to counselors and girls.
- High school diploma/GED with some college a plus
- Preferred: At least 21 by June 30, 2013
- Must have experience in youth programs
- Responsible team leaders
Program Specialists (arts, crafts, sports, nature)
Develop, plan and conduct engaging, age appropriate activities that provide fun with a leadership development purpose to achieve program objectives. Supervise and work directly with girls. Assist and coordinate with other staff.
- High school diploma/GED required with some college a plus
- Preferred: At least 21 by June 30, 2013
- Must have experience in desired specialty area
- Must have experience planning and carrying out youth activities
- Responsible team leaders
Waterfront Specialists/Lifeguards
Supervise and work directly with girls at waterfront or pool activities. Ensure safety. Provide age-appropriate water activities, instruction and opportunities. Assist and coordinate with other staff.
- High school diploma/GED
- Must be at least 18 by Aug. 1, 2013
- Experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor preferred
- Must have Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification (CBB, CGE, CLW/CHH) or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (CLP), Red Cross First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer currently or by May 2013
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth
- For boating only: Must have experience in kayaking, canoeing, and sailing instruction on flat water and must have completed the Massachusetts Safe Boating Course or have equivalent boat experience
Food Service Assistants (CBB only)
Assist in preparing and serving three meals daily plus snacks. Clean and maintain kitchen and dining facilities. Uphold health and safety standards. Camp room and board provided or may opt to commute.
- Must be at least 18 by Aug. 1, 2013
- Work experience in food service is preferred
- Team-players with a sense of responsibility
- Ability to accept direction
Waterfront Directors (CBB only) & Pool Manager (CLP only)
Oversee, coordinate and facilitate all waterfront activities. Supervise waterfront and other staff at the waterfront. Assess waterfront skill levels of campers. Ensure safety. Work directly with girls and staff to provide age-appropriate water activities, instruction and opportunities.
- Must be at least 21 by June 30, 2013
- High school diploma/GED required with some college a plus
- Must have experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor
- Must have experience in kayaking, canoeing, and sailing instruction on flat water and must have completed the Massachusetts Safe Boating Course
- Must have Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification, Red Cross First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer currently or by May 2013.
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and rapid response skills
Health Supervisors (CBB & CGE only)
Oversee health and safety. Provide basic health care, health checks and first aid treatment to campers and staff. Perform emergency response. Store and administer medications. Manage and meet medical records requirements. Work under the direction of an off-site physician and in compliance with Department of Health standards. Camp room and board provided or may opt to commute.
- Must be 21 by June 30, 2013
- Must have Red Cross First Aid & CPR certification. Certifications such as LPN, RN or EMT preferred
- Health care background is required
- Demonstrated calm under pressure, rapid response and sound judgment
- Demonstrated ability to engender confidence with parents, staff and campers
Program Coordinator (Camp Bonnie Brae only)
Provide administrative support. Assist with clerical duties (filing, phones, processing paperwork); inventory, purchasing and supplies, scheduling and customer service.
- Administrative experience and skills required
- Organized, detail-oriented with the ability to follow through independently
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
