Get Out/Move Out
Have your girls been asking about and planning to do activities that take them beyond your regular meeting space? Are you excited about getting out, but nervous about how to engage and manage a troop of excited, energetic girls? In this session, learn tips and tricks for keeping all of your girls engaged and on keeping behavior concerns at a minimum on all outings-whether in a city or a park. In addition, learn fun games that you can play to move your girls from one place to another and to get them interested and excited about being out in “nature”. Take home ideas on how to connect time out-of-doors with Journeys, badges and girl-led experiences.
Letterboxing is a type of outdoor scavenger hunt that combines elements of orienteering, and puzzle solving. It’s a great way to get girls to open their eyes to the world around them and introduce map skills. Small, weatherproof containers are hidden in publicly accessible places and clues to finding the box are printed in catalogs, on letterboxing-related websites, and by word of mouth. Individual letterboxes usually contain a notebook and a rubber stamp. Once each “treasure” has been found, the searchers make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp on their personal notebook or a postcard, and leave an impression of their personal stamp on the letterbox's "visitors' book" or "logbook". This session will introduce you to the world of letterboxing, tips for letterboxing with girls, and links to the GSLE (i.e. Brownie badge) while you discover the course at Camp Laurel Wood.

Camping-Going Beyond the Basics
Have your girls planned and completed great outdoor overnight experiences at a Girl Scout camp? Did they enjoy it and want to do more? If so, this course will cover the basics of what you need to know in more advanced camping scenarios-cooler/cold weather camping, personal tent usage, weather safety, personal hygiene, water access, public camping, back-country campingand related safety activity checkpoints details.
In this very hands-on course, you will learn how to make low cost, fun, very usable camping items with your troop- box ovens, charcoal chimneys, survival bracelets, drip buckets, buddy burners, and more. You'll also have the opportunity to expand upon and practice the knife and rope skills you learned in Outdoor Skills and Outdoor Overnights courses, and tie these experiences back to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
