Quarter Notes Is singing with your friends your favorite part of Girl Scouts? Do you like to shine on stage? Then join the GSCWM Quarter Notes! We will learn Girl Scout songs, traditional folk songs from around the world, rounds and other unison or 2-part music, along with some basic choreography to perform at Council functions and community events. Regular rehearsals will be held every other month, with a dress rehearsal before performances. No audition is required, but a willingness to learn new music and perform for a crowd is a must! Differences in Nature Why would that tree make a good swing? That bush looks like a lion! That one is pale and the one over there is green! We will explore why these things happen as we construct mobiles from nature. Next we'll explore colors from nature: Is an orange really orange? What color is a cucumber? Are beets red or purple? We will make natural dyes and use diffusion paper to explore colors in nature. We will also use celery to pull up colors to see what happens. Time for a little science! Another installment to supplement the Earth and Sky Journey - or to just have fun while exploring nature! Details:
Girl Scout Day at OSV Join Girl Scouts from across New England and beyond while you learn about multi-culturalism in New England in the early 19th century. Inspired by Women's History Month, girls can explore the everyday lives of girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Visit the animals and the costumed villagers throughout the countryside and the center village. Also, pre-register online to participate in 50-minute badge and Try-It workshops or consider making a quick craft in the Craft Center. This event attracted over 1800 girls last year. During this hands-on session with a local artist, girls can make bottle cap jewelry, brooch pins with buttons and paper clips, and then pile their treasures into a custom-designed jewelry box fashioned from a reusable shoe box. Turn castaways into fun and functional stuff. It's fun being green! As space is small, please limit the number of adults. If the morning program fills, an afternoon session may be added. Animal Connections Explore Overlook Farm’s Global Village and learn about the benefits of livestock animals to humans and the 7 M's: Milk, Manure, Meat, Material, Money, Motivation, and Muscle. Learn through hands-on activities like spinning wool in Peru or milking a goat in Guatemala. Time permitting; we may also tour our other livestock facilities to see our many farm animals. Activities may vary with the size of the group and the season. This trip is a nice tie-in with your Animals and People of the World Try-Its. Call for other dates and larger-group requests. Let's Be Green! Calling all Daisies! Let’s learn what "Being Green" means in this eco-friendly workshop. Girls will also learn earth-friendly practices to apply at home. Please bring a bag lunch and a drink. Dress for the weather and bring an extra pair of socks and shoes or shoes for the mud. This workshop is designed to introduce save-the-earth values. We will begin by talking about how our earth is made up of many treasures that need saving! Using what we have talked about, the girls will break into teams and make posters showing what they have learned. We will end the activity by making a recycled craft out of items that we might have found in the forest that shouldn't be there - wrappers, bottle caps, soda cans, etc. Shiver me timbers! Join our CGE staff for a great camp adventure. You'll do boating, archery, arts & crafts, team-building games, incredible science and nature, campfire cooking, and more. Heart Power and Safety Enjoy a fun day learning about healthy heart food, fire and bike helmet safety. Girls will play the "Don't Smoke" game, "Jump for Your Heart" and use glo-germ. A tour of an ambulance and using a fire extinguisher are part of this active program. Wear comfortable clothing. Included in fee is a certificate and a snack. Woodland Fairy Fun “It’s so wonderful to be outside, To swing on daisies and daffodil slides; Of all the enchanted games to play, Which are the ones we’ll choose today?” by Marla Schram Schwartz. This should prove a magical morning--spent in the woods and fields at Northfield Mountain in early spring. The morning includes a craft (making a flower fairy doll), reading fairy stories, playing games, building woodland fairy houses, and concludes with fairy snacks. The fairies never worry about a little dirt on their wings, so please wear clothes that can get messy and bring a water bottle. Details:

Work with Teacher Naturalists as they engage in daily chores and other related activities. Learn how and why we grow and raise what we do and the journey of farm animals and crops to your home. Seuss on the Loose Dr. Seuss is known for creating many silly characters; but in telling their tales he improved the world in which we live. Issues like protecting the environment (The Lorax), bullying and self-image (The Sneetches) are still important today. The afternoon will consist of Seussian art activities, story time and scavenger hunts exploring the Seuss exhibit galleries as well as the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden. Take a journey to see the gardens and birds in the museum's galleries. Then make the world a beautiful place by painting an ideal garden and making a small bird feeder for your garden at home. This program can go towards your rose Learning Petal (make the world a better place) and is a nice supplement to the Daisy Flower Garden Journey. Includes a custom tailored, 30-minute guided tour followed by a 90-minute creative studio activity. Details:

Kitchen Cabinet Science In Kitchen Cabinet Science, we become chemists, scientists and even artists from things we can find in our own kitchens! Zoobilee Meet animals up close and personal after hours at the zoo when it becomes a fantastically fun, wildlife learning place for Girl Scouts. At discovery stations girls will find out what animals eat and why, and how similar their nutritional needs are. Participants can hop on the Zoo Train to check out hard-to-reach zoo destinations. Go behind the scenes with an exciting tour that brings you up close and personal with many exotic species. You will learn about the history of the zoo, captive versus wild environments, exhibit design, adaptations, animal behaviors, enrichment and healthy diets. Some of the animals that we'll focus on are: tortoises, giraffes, parrots, kangaroos, monkeys, chimps, white rhinos and large cats. Bring your flashlights! Details:

You will enjoy all that Camp Bonnie Brae has to offer - sports, archery, arts and crafts - even polar bear swimming and a special kayak to the island. Girl Scout Day at the Worcester Tornadoes Come cheer on the Worcester Tornadoes baseball team at Hanover Park at Fitton Field. Join “Twister” on his birthday and meet other mascots from the area who are coming to help him celebrate! Arrive by 1:30pm to join in the Girl Scout parade around the field before the game (bring a banner or troop flag if you like). The first 200 girls to purchase tickets will receive a Tornadoes patch! Optional pre-game barbecue buffet w/ box seat ticket package is available for $25/adult and $18/kids 12 and under. Details:
