Day Camp Staff
Summer camp staff are caring adults committed to helping girls to build courage, confidence, and character. Staff are provided training specific to their role and position in camp, but come prepared with enthusiasm for and experience in working with children.
By working at camp you will gain valuable experience that builds skills in recreation, planning, leadership, organization, communication and youth development. You’ll also apply skills in psychology, early childhood and physical education. You will meet new people and develop lasting friendships while you spend your summer in the out-of-doors. Most importantly, you will have the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of young girls.
Day Camp Staff Schedule
Day Camps operate Monday-Friday, 9am-4:30pm.
Staff are typically on duty from 8:30am-5pm
Camp Marion White, Richmond, MA (total 4 weeks)
Staff Training: Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 3
Camper Sessions: July 6 - July 23
Camp Lewis Perkins, South Hadley, MA (total 6 weeks)
Staff Training: Monday, June 29 – Friday, July 2
Camper Sessions: July 5 - August 6
Camp Laurelwood, Spencer, MA / Camp Hickory Hill, Whitinsville, MA (total 6 weeks)

Day Camp Positions
The following descriptions are intended to serve only as an overview. Specific job descriptions are available. Day Camp staff work 40 hours per week.
WATERFRONT STAFF
Waterfront Director
Minimum Age: 21 years
Current Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifeguard Training, BLS/CPR and Community First Aid and Safety or equivalent, and supervisory experience required. Develop and implement an integrated program of waterfront activities at the pool (Camp Lewis Perkins) including swimming instruction. Manage waterfront operations and supervise waterfront staff. Keep facilities clean, neat and in accordance with pool and health requirements.
Waterfront Specialist
Minimum Age: 18 years
Current Lifeguard Training, BLS/CPR and Community First Aid and Safety or equivalent required; Small Craft Certification preferred at some camps. Lifeguard at the pool or lake. Assist in teaching swimming/boating lessons and with waterfront related program and maintenance operations. Assist with all-camp projects and program.
COUNSELING AND PROGRAM STAFF
Unit Leader
Minimum Age: 21 years
Develop and implement unit program based on camp goals and utilizing girl partnership in planning. Lead a small staff team including supervision of unit counselors. Leadership and supervisory experience and First Aid and Safety or equivalent required. Previous Girl Scout, camp and/or program and supervisory experience preferred. Must be energetic, enjoy working with and leading young girls, creative, and able to follow safety rules and regulations. It is helpful to have outdoor experience, enjoy the out-of-doors, and have the desire to share your enjoyment with the campers.
Unit Counselor
Minimum Age: 18 years
Assist in developing and implementing unit program. Work directly with girls in small groups to provide fun, high quality program experience. Camping, leadership, and Girl Scout program experience preferred. First Aid and Safety certification preferred. Must be energetic, enjoy working with and leading young girls, creative, and able to follow safety rules and regulations. It is helpful to have outdoor experience, enjoy the out-of-doors, and have the desire to share your enjoyment with the campers.
Camp Counselor
Camp Laurel Wood Day Camp in Spencer, MA
Camp Hickory Hill Day Camp in Whitinsville, MA
Work with campers providing fun activities with a purpose of building courage, confidence and character in girls. Engage and participate with campers, serve as a role-model and work together with other staff as a team.
Qualifications:
Volunteer, internship or other experience working with children
Enjoy working with children and enjoy the outdoors
Strong interactive and teamwork orientation
SPECIALISTS
Arts & Crafts Specialist
Minimum Age: 21
Develop and implement a craft program to support and camp objectives. Organize scheduling, maintain crafts facility, inventory, equipment and supplies. Assist with all-camp projects and program. Knowledge and experience in arts, crafts required; previous specific camping, Girl Scout, and craft experience desirable.
Program Specialist - Sports or Nature
Minimum Age: 21
Develop and implement a specialty program as determined by the camp director that support unit and camp objectives. Organize scheduling or archery and sports course, maintain nature center, inventory, equipment and supplies. Assist with all-camp projects and program. Knowledge, education and/or experience in natural sciences or environmental studies required, archery certification; camping and Girl Scout experience preferred.
First Aider / Health Supervisor
Minimum Age: 21
Oversee all health care in the camp. Administer first aid as needed and as dictated by a doctors standing orders. Supervise and run the health center. Train the camp staff in their duties as related to safety and first aid. Complete all required paperwork for the health center. Organize health history forms for incoming campers and contact parents if forms are missing. Communicate health concerns with parents. Minimum requirements: currently certified in Community First Aid and Safety. Additional experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Overnight Staff
Minimum Age: 18
Overnights are camp programs, which take place on Thursday nights from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m at some of our camps Camp staff will be asked to work at least two overnights during the summer. Staff who work overnights will receive a payment of $75 per overnight worked in addition to their meals and sleeping quarters. Staff are responsible for providing programs to campers throughout this time period including cooking dinner and breakfast with the campers and having an evening campfire.
Camp Employment
We are now interviewing for all positions for the 2010 Camp Season. Earlier applicants have a better chance of securing their preferred position at their preferred camp, so don’t delay!
