Full-Time Membership Development Specialist
Based in Berkshire County
As a membership development specialist, you would reach out to build visibility, relationships & networks to recruit and engage new volunteers and current troop leaders to do some of the best work they’ll ever do – deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. You will work with service teams to build and support troops and will also work with community partners and businesses to support Girl Scouts in line with our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Your primary territory would be Berkshire County. This position is based from your home office and requires you to report to our Hampden County office once a week on average. Travel in your own vehicle is a must (we reimburse mileage and also make use of conferencing technology).
Duties & Responsibilities Highlights
- Recruit and develop volunteer groups/service teams and implement creative strategies and plans to engage, recruit, retain and expand girl membership and participation in all Girl Scout pathways.
- Supervise and support volunteers to increase membership and troop development, and equip volunteers to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience throughout assigned service area.
- Network and seek out individual, community and business contacts, events, leaders and organizations to secure new sites and non-traditional partners and promote and support recruitment of volunteers and outreach to girls.
- Organize girls who choose the troop pathway into troops.
- Produce and manage recruitment events, including scheduling, volunteer or staff coverage, hosting supporting and providing needed materials.
- Work as part of a cross-functional collaborative department to support MVP priorities and GSCWM’s strategy.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with directly relevant experience. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. education, marketing, psychology, community development) is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in cultivating and growing a membership base or direct sales. Work or volunteer experience in Girl Scout programming or membership is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform community outreach, support and recruitment.
- Engaging with strong communication, presentation and platform skills.
- Works effectively independently and with the team.
- Understanding of volunteerism challenges and knowledge of the assigned territory is preferred.
- Interest in meeting the needs of girls through Girl Scouting Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, e-mail and internet use.
- An adaptable self-starter with strong interpersonal, teamwork, professionalism, customer service and multi-tasking skills is required.
- No conduct or record of criminal offenses jeopardizing the health, safety or trust of minors.
- Valid MA driver’s license, clean driving record and own vehicle are required.
Full-Time Program Development Specialist/Camp Director
Year-round position based in our Hampden County Service Center
and at Camp Bonnie Brae in summer
As a program development specialist, you would build and coordinate girl-programming based on our program, which is the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). It would be your job to engage girls and build participation as well as work with volunteers, troops and service units to support and advance the delivery of the GSLE. Community outreach, extending our programming reach to diverse populations and developing creative ways to reach girls to provide leadership development opportunities are also part of the job. You would be based in our East Longmeadow Service center until our move to a new building in Holyoke in Fall 2012. Service Worcester Service Center but would work throughout our service areas along with the other members of the program team. You get to spend 7 - 9 weeks each summer living in residence as the overnight camp director for Camp Bonnie Brae managing staff, daily operations and GSLE programming and offering girls a robust Girl Scout camp experience in a safe environment.
Duties & Responsibilities Highlights
- Grow leadership opportunities and girl membership using the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). Engage, re-engage and support girls in the event, camp, travel and troop pathways with a strategic focus on Troops, Camps and Events.
- Develop and administer systems, resources, training programs and activities to ensure the quality delivery of the GSLE to girls.
- Develop and provide creative girl-focused, girl-led program opportunities to girls that meet identified goals and provide meaningful, fun leadership development opportunities.
- Supervise and support volunteers to increase membership and troop development, and equip volunteers to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience throughout assigned service area.
- Work with and through volunteers to ensure safety, promote inclusion and diversity and practice girl input and focus in line with GSCWM’s mission and policies and GSUSA standards.
- Work to increase participation in cookie and fall product sales programs.
- Cultivate individual, community and business contacts, events, leaders and organizations to secure new sites and non-traditional partners and promote and support recruitment of volunteers and outreach to girls.
As Camp Director
- Reside at the camp for the full camp season. Oversee all camp programming, activities and events during pre-season training and preparation and the seasonal camp sessions.
- Interview and make hiring recommendations for camp staff. Supervise and train seasonal camp staff, including counselors, activity specialists, food service and health specialists. Lead and participate in training activities. Build a cohesive, effective team.
- Serve as main point of contact for parents/guardians.
- Ensure staffing levels and activity coverage. Schedule staff for work and time off in accordance with policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- 4 years of experience leading youth programs, which must include 2 years of staff and program oversight in a lead role at a resident camp or other residential program. Work or volunteer experience in Girl Scout programming or membership is preferred as is supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as education, psychology/child psychology, social work or therapeutic recreation. Exceptional experience may substitute.
- Knowledge of general outdoor and other program operational safety considerations and procedures.
- Demonstrated passion for service and interest in meeting the needs of girls through Girl Scouting, and particularly through outdoor programming.
- Engaging with strong communication, presentation and platform skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, e-mail and internet use
- Adaptable to change with strong initiative, interpersonal, teamwork/team-building, professionalism, customer service and multi-tasking skills is required.
- No conduct or record of criminal offenses jeopardizing the health, safety or trust of minors.
- Valid MA driver’s license, clean driving record and own vehicle are required.
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Wilderness trip or aquatic experience/certification is a plus.
Full Time Maintenance Assistant
Year-round Hourly Non-Exempt Position Based at Camp Bonnie Brae in East Otis, MA
Our Maintenance Assistants are a critical part of Girl Scout operations. They ensure that our camps, offices, structures and equipment are kept in condition to support camp programs and all of the retail and administrative work of GSCWM. As part of this team, you would work most commonly at our camps and offices in the Western part of our service area, but would also go to our other locations in central Massachusetts as needed. If you enjoy working with your hands, love being outdoors and like taking on challenges and achieving what you set out to achieve, this may be the right job for you. Work hours are normally Mon- Fri 7:30 am – 3pm with other days/hours as needed for high demand seasons and unexpected or special operations needs.
Duties & Responsibilities Highlights
- Work outdoors and indoors maintaining properties, grounds, structures and equipment on a daily basis, including performing general indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks; basic plumbing and carpentry; equipment repair and maintenance; forestry, snow removal and grounds keeping.
- Perform annual and seasonal preparations of campgrounds for the camp season and for scheduled year-round use and events.
- Operate power equipment and use equipment and hand tools. Maintain tools and equipment in good repair.
- Ensure that all work performed meets GSCWM standards and local, state and federal standards where they apply.
- Follow safety and emergency policies and procedures.
- Assist in construction projects, relocations and moving and special projects at all GSCWM sites as directed.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience performing general indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks and knowledge of basic repair, carpentry, common tools; power equipment operation; plumbing and grounds keeping.
- Ability to perform general maintenance, carpentry, repair, basic plumbing, grounds keeping, painting etc. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Demonstrate skill and ability to operate power and hand tools and equipment.
- Can-do team player with the ability to follow-through and complete assigned tasks independently.
- Customer service orientation.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Willingness to become a member of the Girls Scouts USA and maintain membership annually while employed.
- No record of criminal offense involving children, theft or other offense relevant to the job.
