Beyond the Book: One Crazy Summer Gr 4-12
It's 1968 and eleven-year-old Delphine and her two younger sisters have been sent to Oakland, California to visit their mother. They dream of going to Disneyland, but are instead sent to a summer camp run by the Black Panthers. They learn much about their family identity, personal responsibility and revolution. Registration includes a copy of the book One Crazy Summer and three meetings: March 4 and March 25 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Holyoke Service Center and April 15 from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Pan-African Historical Museum in Springfield, MA. Adults may be asked to chaperone the April 15 trip.
