Textile Badge Program Gr 9-12
As a museum of Decorative Arts, Historic Deerfield offers a unique place to learn about textiles. You will visit our collections housed in The Flynt Center for Early American Life. On view are period textiles, quilts, embroidery and clothing made of wool, silk, linen and cotton. After a close look in the gallery, you will move to a comfortable classroom space and begin to sew. First, you will learn and then practice, some basic sewing stitches. Then everyone will choose a piece of fabric, thread and a pattern for making a Housewife, the 18th century name for a small, cloth sewing kit. Directions for completing the project and Textile Badge requirements (for Seniors) will be given to take home. Badge not included.
To register, call or email Faith Deering at 413-775-7116 or firstname.lastname@example.org by February 25.
