Artistic Crafts IP Learn to say "I made it myself"! While working on your Artistic Crafts IP, you'll explore a variety of art mediums used in home crafting. Quarter Notes Is singing with your friends your favorite part of Girl Scouts? Do you like to shine on stage? Then join the GSCWM Quarter Notes! We will learn Girl Scout songs, traditional folk songs from around the world, rounds and other unison or 2-part music, along with some basic choreography to perform at Council functions and community events. Regular rehearsals will be held every other month, with a dress rehearsal before performances. No audition is required, but a willingness to learn new music and perform for a crowd is a must! Key Notes Do you love to sing with your Girl Scout friends but want more of a challenge than the normal campfire songs and rounds? Then audition for the Key Notes! The Key Notes is a select choir made up of members of the Quarter Notes. They will learn and perform 3 and 4 part songs and will take leadership roles in the Quarter Notes. Music will be drawn from traditional Girl Scout songs and a variety of other sources. Girls interested in the Key Notes should be able to read music and have some performance experience. Silver Orientation Attending a Silver Award Orientation can be the most beneficial thing you can do before beginning to work on the Girl Scout Silver Award. Gold 4B's Challenge Step 4 of the Gold Award process is one of the most difficult, but often the most important step in a successful Gold Award project. Work as a group to complete this exciting step. Explore personal strengths and set goals for improvement. Look at your community's needs and learn to identify people in the community who share your concerns. Learn about vision statements and how to develop one that will clearly identify a successful Gold Award project. Girl Scout Day at OSV Join Girl Scouts from across New England and beyond while you learn about multi-culturalism in New England in the early 19th century. Inspired by Women's History Month, girls can explore the everyday lives of girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Visit the animals and the costumed villagers throughout the countryside and the center village. Also, pre-register online to participate in 50-minute badge and Try-It workshops or consider making a quick craft in the Craft Center. This event attracted over 1800 girls last year. During this hands-on session with a local artist, girls can make bottle cap jewelry, brooch pins with buttons and paper clips, and then pile their treasures into a custom-designed jewelry box fashioned from a reusable shoe box. Global Solutions Work towards your Global Girl Scouting IP. Service-learning at its finest! As your group tours the farm's gardens, livestock barn and Global Village, you will be introduced to Heifer's mission and explore working examples of the type of sustainable agriculture Heifer supports around the world. A service session will allow the group to experience the value of volunteering as a contribution to Heifer's work. Touché! Fencing Fencing isn't just for aristocrats and pirates! This Olympic sport has been growing in popularity in recent years because it's great exercise and tons of fun! Girls and women especially excel at fencing because it's a sport that relies on lower body strength. In this 4-hour Adventure Series class, you will be introduced to the basics of fencing through basic footwork, attack, parry, riposte and so much more! Folk Arts Folk Arts have existed in all cultures throughout time. They reflect the stories, myths, and symbols of a culture. In this workshop, you'll explore some of the many facets of folk arts with some hands-on crafts. How about learning how to hook a rug or designing a unique piece of beadwork jewelry? Massachusetts, a WWII battleship or the U.S.S. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., a destroyer, just like the sailors did! Learn to tie knots, take More Code classes, participate in flag-folding presentations, story-telling and historical re-enactments. Feature films will be shown on board Big Mamie. Crow Ledge is one of the most beautiful cliffs in north central Massachusetts -- and you're going to get a bird's eye view of it on this day of rappelling and zipping! You'll learn the basics of rappelling, starting on a steep hill and advancing to low angles of the cliff -- and ending with a steep, vertical rappel from almost 50-feet up! What do pulleys and ascenders have to do with fun? Put them together with line and find yourself zipping off the cliff through the forest canopy to the forest floor -- about a 200-foot ride - on a zip-line! Connect with zoo staff to find out just what it takes to become a zookeeper, veterinarian, field researcher and more. Participants will design an animal exhibit, discover (and create) one of the very special things zookeepers do to keep animals healthy and active, and even get a behind-the-scenes look at where the animal's food is prepared - the commissary. Participation patch is provided which allows free zoo admission through 2011. Each group must provide a trained overnight leader and first aider, and provide 1 adult for every 5 girls (minimum 2 adults per group - maximum determined by the number of girls registered). Details:

With over 14,000 square feet of amazing climbing walls from 15 to 40-feet high, a massive lead arch and super long overhangs, there'll be plenty to do at this Girl Scout Day event! Central Rock closes its doors to the public for our 4-hour session of rock climbing fun! Groups will rotate through 6-8 different learning stations, enjoying level-appropriate challenges along the way. Bring your lunch and your appetite for adventure! Details:

CSI and Genetics Lab Working as lab technicians we have two tasks…1) we must solve a crime! and 2) we need to test for a disease! Our first task…A jewelry store was robbed and the perpetrator appeared to cut him/herself on the broken store window; blood was found on glass at the scene of the crime. The blood-spattered shards of glass were brought to our forensics lab to analyze the DNA to determine who committed the crime!! Our second task of the day is to determine the genotype of a mother, father and their fetus. We’ll need to use Gel Electrophoresis (a really cool technique for separating and analyzing mixtures using electricity) to determine if Jim, Jane and their fetus carry the genes for cystic fibrosis. This information can be used to calculate the probability of the couple’s next child having the disease. It’s a tough job, but SOMEBODY’s gotta do it! Details:

Get smart! This special program about girls’ power in democracy includes workshops on the legislative process and leadership; a tour of the State House and a special luncheon. You will have the opportunity to debate a bill on the House floor. This exciting event will show you how to use your power to make a difference in your community. This program occurs during April vacation week. Girls are welcome to register and attend on their own. Additionally we may be arranging transportation from western and central Massachusetts if there is enough interest. The cost for transportation will be an additional $25/person. We will decide the exact pick-up location once girls have registered in order to make the locations as convenient as possible. Victorian Era Days Imagine! Fun for all ages as girls learn about and 'live' an era gone by in beautiful Wistariahurst, a Victorian mansion. Girls will discover what life was like in the late 1800s, while participating in a variety of hands-on activities. They will learn and live Victorian fashion, hair styles, outdoor games, letter writing, decorating and more. Girl Scouts will be divided into small groups as they travel through the museum. Intermediate Archery Classes Intermediate Archery Classes accommodates various skill levels covering: refining form, tournament rules, timing, how to string a bow, string alignment, concentration, back tension, and skill development drills to improve shooting skills. Boot, Scoot & Boogie Years ago barn dances brought neighbors and families together to enjoy music and dancing. Now, your group can gather for 2 hours of high-energy fun in a real barn with this line dancing event! Learn a new routine or two along with dance favorites like the Cotton-Eyed Joe, Limbo, Electric Slide and more! Best of all, just plain have fun! You'll learn horse safety, standard horse etiquette, grooming and leading a horse. You'll also explore the tack room and learn about the equipment and its care. Go behind the scenes with an exciting tour that brings you up close and personal with many exotic species. You will learn about the history of the zoo, captive versus wild environments, exhibit design, adaptations, animal behaviors, enrichment and healthy diets. Do you like to shine on stage? Then join the GSCWM Quarter Notes! We will learn Girl Scout songs, traditional folk songs from around the world, rounds and other unison or 2-part music, along with some basic choreography to perform at Council functions and community events. Regular rehearsals will be held every other month, with a dress rehearsal before performances. No audition is required, but a willingness to learn new music and perform for a crowd is a must! Key Notes Do you love to sing with your Girl Scout friends but want more of a challenge than the normal campfire songs and rounds? Then audition for the Key Notes! The Key Notes is a select choir made up of members of the Quarter Notes. They will learn and perform 3 and 4 part songs and will take leadership roles in the Quarter Notes. Music will be drawn from traditional Girl Scout songs and a variety of other sources. Girls interested in the Key Notes should be able to read music and have some performance experience. Teams must follow clues and instructions and make their way to checkpoints in places around the city, eventually racing to the finish line! Along the way teams perform tasks that represent the culture and adventures of the city - past and present. Teams will come across obstacles and challenges in the form of road blocks, detours and pit stops. Do you think you have the brains, brawn and street-smarts to win the race? Form your team and become a contestant in the AMAZING RACE! Teams are made up of girls (with their adult chaperones/drivers), with one vehicle per team. Many teams will enter; only one team will win. Horsemanship Basics Learn about grooming, leading, safety, equine behavior, tacking up and more in this half-day workshop at Biscuit Hill Farm in Shelburne. This will be a chance to work towards your horse related badges or to just have fun and learn about horses and then get a chance to ride one. Be sure to wear hard sole shoes. Find out what you need to start your own garden while you try out different kinds of gardening tools, learn about different soils, garden pests and more. You will complete five of the requirements for the Plant Life Interest Project. Paddle, Pole and Role This full-day program allows Girl Scouts to earn the Paddle Pole & Roll Interest Project using inflatable kayaks and professional instructors. The morning session includes instruction, on-water practice and relay races in the reservoir behind the base camp. The afternoon is spent paddling inflatable kayaks, "Funyaks", eight miles down an easy stretch of the Deerfield River. Follow-up work at home completes the IP requirements. Details:

Girl Scout Day at the Worcester Tornadoes Come cheer on the Worcester Tornadoes baseball team at Hanover Park at Fitton Field. Join “Twister” on his birthday and meet other mascots from the area who are coming to help him celebrate! Arrive by 1:30pm to join in the Girl Scout parade around the field before the game (bring a banner or troop flag if you like). The first 200 girls to purchase tickets will receive a Tornadoes patch!
