Cake Decorating for Juniors Have your cake and eat it too! Learn basic cake decorating techniques like icing, piping and transferring a pattern. Bring an 8 or 9 inch round cake to decorate. You'll receive a supply kit to use during the workshop and take home along with all the yummy goodies you've decorated yourself! An "Icing Fun" participation patch is included. Details:
Science Discovery Overnight Juniors can earn the 'Science Discovery" or "Sky Search" badges at these exciting Springfield Science Museum Camp Ins. At these overnights participants will meet new friends while they interact in science related hands-on workshops and demonstrations. Girls will set up camp by a boa constrictor, under a dinosaur or next to a turtle pond. There will be a pizza party in the evening and a light breakfast will be served before grils leave in the morning. Secured overnight parking for chaperones is provided. Winter Sports Get a taste of winter with the Bershire Eastern Mountain Sports store. Learn basic snowshoe techniques and proper fitting, as well as the history surrounding the popular sport. Investigate the types of clothing and equipment needed for a safe and fun outing. Then head out to the woods, where you will search for animal tracks and identify trees that are used for traditional snowshoe frames. You'll learn how to coll down your body with some light stretches. Snowshoes will be provided (to ensure proper fitting, please include your height and weight on your registration form). Dress warm and wear sturdy boots. Bring water and a snack. You will need to complete additional activities to earn the "Winter Sports" badge (a list of suggestions will be provided). Details:

Frosty Fun Winter is a favorite season for many of the Arcadia staff. There is so much to see with the leaves off the trees and the snow providing a place for animals to leave their footprints. Join us at Arcadia for a frosty morning at Arcadia earning your “Frosty Fun” badge. First we’ll be sure that everyone is dressed for the weather by reviewing the best fabrics and footwear to stay warm and dry. Outdoors we will search for animal tracks and even winter insects in the snow. Girls will take a test in which they put their hands in icy cold water but with insulation! Badges are not included. Fun with Ceramics and Clay Ceramics and clay is Artzzone's specialty! You'll work with a variety of clay and ceramic mediums. You'll mold it, fold it, and roll it! Girl Scout Day with the UMass Minutewomen Basketball Team Girl Scouts and troop leaders wearing some sort of identifying item (sash, uniform, etc) will be admitted for a special $2 admission. General Admission rates for all others will be $4 for adults and $2 for children. February Astronomy Overnight The winter months are the perfect time to explore the night skies. Earn the Sky Search badge while participating in fun astronomy activities, then take a night hike on the grounds of the sanctuary. Sky Search Join Naturalist and Astronomer Kevin Kopchynski to earn your “Sky Search’ badge. Learn how to read a star map and about the constellations. Discover why people can navigate using stars. Listen to a story about the night sky and stars. Hopefully the skies will be clear and we can go out to observe the stars, moon, and constellations first hand. National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic Try new activities; discover your interests; find your potential. The Springfield College Athletic Department is inviting Girl Scouts to fun-filled, energy-packed, sports clinics for softball, indoor rock climbing and volleyball. No previous experience necessary. Wistariahurst Museum - Textile Arts for Teens Wistariahurst Museum was home tos ilk manufacturer William Skinner. Come tour the home and explore textile arts and silk production. Girls will meet a local artisan and make their own crafts: creating a book of fabric samples, exploring hand embroidery, and completing a small quilting project such as a pillow or purse. Finally, there will be a discussion on how historians and preservationists approach textiles and the skills and education required to work in those fields. Predator/Prey Tracking on Snowshoes Who are the predators at Northfield Mountain and who are the prey? By looking at posters, mounts, skulls and books indoors and following tracks outdoors to observe behavior, the group will try to answer this essential question. Scouts will learn through activities and the use of tracking journals, and will do their best to find answers about who eats whom – or maybe discover even more fascinating questions! Please bring water bottles; wear wind pants or gaiters if you have them; and dress in warm layers that can be shed as we get moving. Tennis for All Challenge yourself to learn a new skill. Girls will have a ball learning how to play tennis in an active, Girl Scout friendly environment. The staff at Ludlow Tennis Club will provide basic on-court instruction, designed to introduce this life-long sport to beginner players. Wistariahurst Museum - Trash to Treasure Let your imagination run wild in this hands-on session with a local artist. Make bottle cap jewelry; cool necklaces fashioned from cast-off bottle toppers. Put together a brooch with loads of buttons, leftover paper clips and tin foil. Build the perfect treasure chest or jewelry box from reusable shoe boxes and go to the hilt with descoration using collage, wallpaper remnants, old ribbons, stamps, and beads, or stencil the box with skull n' crossbones. Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village This event is designed for all Girl Scouts that are interested in learning more about early 19th century American history. Inspired by Women’s History Month, Girl Scout Day will explore the everyday lives of early New England girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Meet two very inspirational and dynamic women, Lydia Maria Child and Mary Gove. In their own ways, both motivated positive changes in American women’s lives. Admission includes most Village activities and an Old Sturbridge Village patch. Also pre-register online for the Museum Education Girl Scout Hands-on Studios for an additional $3.00 per girl. Ceramics & Clay Have fun exploring the galleries of the Worcester Art Museum and making art in our studios while working towards your Ceramics and Clay badge. Our custom-tailored workshops include a 30-minute guided tour followed by a 90-minute creative studio activity. Ancient pottery and sculpture in the Greek and Precolumbian galleries will inspire your own hand at working with clay. Join educator Anne Benoit as she teaches girls how to make jewelry from everyday objects, a little bit of macramé, gemstones, and basic jewelry making. All types of materials can be used! Museum of Science Overnight These wonderful overnights will inspire your girls to discover science in an entertaining, educational and interactive way. Girls participate in fun hands-on workshops, live demonstrations and shows! Girls receive a Camp-In patch which allows free admission to exhibit halls through 2009. Evening snack and breakfast included. Each group must provide a trained overnight leader and first aider and provide 1 adult for every 5 girls (minimum 2 adults per group). Details:
