Winterfest Come to Camp Bonnie Brae to try your hand at cross-country skiing. Learn about what animals do in the winter, play snow games, and even go ice fishing! Participants should bring a lunch and drink. Remember to dress warmly, most activities will take place outside. Details:
Self Defense for Juniors Self-defense is more than just karate kicks and upper cuts. Learn to protect yourself while learning important safety tips, martial arts techniques, and more importantly: how to AVOID situations. This very special program is designed just for your age group! Quarter Notes Is singing with your friends your favorite part of Girl Scouts? Do you like to shine on stage? Then join the GSCWM Quarter Notes! We will learn Girl Scout songs, traditional folk songs from around the world, rounds and other unison or 2-part music, along with some basic choreography to perform at Council functions and community events. Regular rehearsals will be held every other month, with a dress rehearsal before performances. No audition is required, but a willingness to learn new music and perform for a crowd is a must! Medieval Maidens Princesses, fair ladies, nobles and peasants! Connect with the staff at Higgins Armory Museum to learn about girls and women in medieval times. Discover how far we’ve come since the Middle Ages and what advancements have been made since then. Your day starts with a presentation in the auditorium and then it's off to do some hands-on learning...take a tour, learn a dance, do a craft and have fun earning your Medieval Maidens Badge. Activities vary for each age level, so if you've visited as a Brownie, come back as a Junior for a whole new experience! Details:

Rock Out Want to rock out with a guitar in your hand? Or maybe a drum? Come to camp for Rock Out and you'll learn the basics of playing guitar, feel the rhythm of the drums in a drumming session, and learn more about instruments from around the world. All instruments are provided. Details:
Wildlife Try your hand at observing and helping some of the wildlife that lives in your community. Earn your Wildlife Badge while you learn our state's wildlife symbols and different animals or plants that are endangered in Massachusetts. After receiving training in animal evidence identification, participants will assume the role of "Zoo Scene Investigators" to solve the Case of the Covert Chicken. ZSI training will include creation of a tracking book and a cast of an animal footprint. Girls will meet the requirements for their Wildlife Badge (not included). Participation patch provided which allows free zoo admission through 2011. Springfield Science Museum Camp In - Space Explorer and Sky Search Girls will discover a variety of nature and science related information while connecting with sister Girl Scouts and participating in hands on, fun activities. Girls will sleep beside a coral reef, or next to live animals or the Tyrannosaurus rex. An evening pizza party and light breakfast is included. Everyone views the planetarium show, screen prints their own t-shirt and has exclusive access to the Black Holes: Space Warps and Time Twists exhibit at the Science Museum. Girls will complete the requirements for a Try-It or Badge. Cost of recognition not included. Free and secure parking is available. Details:

Women in Engineering Connect with students from WPI's Society of Women Engineers as they lead you through activities at this fun program for Juniors. You'll earn our Women in Engineering Badge while creating and inventing, building structures and designing your own dream house! You'll learn about NASA, design a space station, visit the wind tunnel lab, launch mini rockets and have a fun paper-airplane contest. Girl Scout Day at OSV Join Girl Scouts from across New England and beyond while you learn about multi-culturalism in New England in the early 19th century. Inspired by Women's History Month, girls can explore the everyday lives of girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Visit the animals and the costumed villagers throughout the countryside and the center village. Also, pre-register online to participate in 50-minute badge and Try-It workshops or consider making a quick craft in the Craft Center. This event attracted over 1800 girls last year. During this hands-on session with a local artist, girls can make bottle cap jewelry, brooch pins with buttons and paper clips, and then pile their treasures into a custom-designed jewelry box fashioned from a reusable shoe box. Humans & Habitats While preparing and eating a Global Village meal, discover how culture is reflected in the food we eat and how we prepare it. Investigate the impact of food choices and examine issues surrounding population and resource distribution. This program qualifies for the Humans & Habitats Badge (included). Then pick up your paint brush and work with a museum instructor to learn about color, design, perspective and composition in your own creative work of art. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the career of an artist/art teacher during the workshop. Have fun exploring the galleries and making art in the museum's studios while working towards your Visual Arts Badge! With over 14,000 square feet of amazing climbing walls from 15 to 40-feet high, a massive lead arch and super long overhangs, there'll be plenty to do at this Girl Scout Day event! Central Rock closes its doors to the public for our 4-hour session of rock climbing fun! Using our "inner green" we will explore the Making Hobbies Badge (included). Solving the riddle "What do we do now?", the group will cooperatively create items in our recycle station. We'll get inspired as we work together as a team to craft and re-craft. Girls will complete pieces and then be judged by peers for the honor of display in the Chair City Artisan's Gallery. This workshop will also explore owning a craft business as well as crafting safety. Details:

Fun for all ages as girls learn about and 'live' an era gone by in beautiful Wistariahurst, a Victorian mansion. Girls will discover what life was like in the late 1800s, while participating in a variety of hands-on activities. They will learn and live Victorian fashion, hair styles, outdoor games, letter writing, decorating and more. Girl Scouts will be divided into small groups as they travel through the museum. Intermediate Archery Classes Intermediate Archery Classes accommodates various skill levels covering: refining form, tournament rules, timing, how to string a bow, string alignment, concentration, back tension, and skill development drills to improve shooting skills. Registration fee includes the Junior Olympic Archery Development Basic Drills and Skills booklet used in the class sessions. All equipment is provided. During this day-long workshop you'll complete 5 activities for the Aerospace Badge while learning and connecting with this fantastic museum staff! Make different kinds of paper airplanes and test fly them to discover their flight characteristics. Take a tour of the museum exhibits and after lunch (bring bagged lunches), we'll reconvene to decorate and assemble kites. You'll also explore careers in aviation and what it would be like to live and work in space. After an adult-free planning period, girls will then present a skit on living and working in space. If there's time, we'll finish off with a treasure hunt. Then, weather permitting, we'll take our kites down to Riverside Park for a test flight. Learn how much water there is on the earth and participate in 8 of the 10 requirements for your Water Wonders Badge. We will learn Girl Scout songs, traditional folk songs from around the world, rounds and other unison or 2-part music, along with some basic choreography to perform at Council functions and community events. Regular rehearsals will be held every other month, with a dress rehearsal before performances. No audition is required, but a willingness to learn new music and perform for a crowd is a must! Zoobilee Meet animals up close and personal after hours at the zoo when it becomes a fantastically fun, wildlife learning place for Girl Scouts. At discovery stations girls will find out what animals eat and why, and how similar their nutritional needs are. Participants can hop on the Zoo Train to check out hard-to-reach zoo destinations. Boston Museum of Science Overnight Girl Scouts have been enjoying the overnights at the Museum of Science for many years for a truly unique night of fun and learning! Girls participate in fun, hands-on science activities, live demonstrations and shows! Evening snack and breakfast included. Each girl receives a souvenir overnight patch and a pass for one free return visit to the planetarium. Springfield Science Museum Overnight - Space Explorers and Sky Search Girls will discover a variety of nature and science related information while connecting with sister Girl Scouts and participating in fun, hands on activities. Girls will sleep beside a coral reef or next to live animals or the Tyrannosaurus. An evening pizza party and light breakfast is included. Everyone views the planetarium show and screen prints their own t-shirt. Girls will complete requirements for a Try It or badge. The cost of the recognition is not included. Horsemanship Basics Learn about grooming, leading, safety, equine behavior, tacking up and more in this half-day workshop at Biscuit Hill Farm in Shelburne. Ask and investigate questions just like a scientist. There isn't always a "right" or "only" answer - that's the challenge of sleuthing. The program includes free time in the museum after the program. Adventure Sports Being active and challenging yourself is a great way to discover just what you can do when you try. Cross through a “spider web” with the help of your team, balance on a single cable with a partner and a spotting team, climb the “Harrington Playpen”, a low ropes obstacle course that offers many varieties of challenge. Earn your Adventure Sports Badge by working together and supporting each other while climbing out of your “comfort zone” on the challenge course. You will learn about challenge courses and rock climbing safety procedures and equipment. Bring a brown bag lunch. Details:

Outdoor Creativity Explore the beautiful grounds of Tower Hill Botanic Garden and let nature inspire you to create works of art in many media. How about drawing a landscape or close-up? Or try your hand at writing a haiku poem inspired by nature. You'll also decorate note cards with pressed flowers and take home a planter filled with your choice of herbs or flowers. All this on top of a guided tour through the gardens! You'll complete 5 activities from the Outdoor Creativity Badge. Girl Scout Day at the Worcester Tornadoes Come cheer on the Worcester Tornadoes baseball team at Hanover Park at Fitton Field. Join “Twister” on his birthday and meet other mascots from the area who are coming to help him celebrate! Arrive by 1:30pm to join in the Girl Scout parade around the field before the game (bring a banner or troop flag if you like). The first 200 girls to purchase tickets will receive a Tornadoes patch!
