Who are the 2010 Silver Award Honorees?

Click here to find out what the 2010 Silver Award Recipients have accomplished to earn their Silver Award. Visit our Facebook page to see photos from the Gold & Silver Ceremony.

What is the Silver Award?
The Girl Scout Silver Award is a service-oriented award pursued by girls (either as part of a group or individually) who want to make a lasting difference in their community.  It’s the highest award a Girl Scout, age 11-14 (or in grades 6-9) can earn! So long as you are 11-14, you can start the “Quest for Silver,” no matter how long you’ve been a Girl Scout and regardless of what other awards you’ve earned.

Hmmm…Tell Me More.
It takes some time to earn the Silver Award – on average 1-2 years from start to finish.  So, you are encouraged to start the process early. If you are 11 and still finishing requirements for Bronze Award, you must complete the Bronze Award process before starting on the silver.

And don’t worry, there will be many people along the way to help in the journey.  Remember the “Quest for Silver” is an individual choice!  So, even if most girls in your group want to pursue the Silver, if you don’t want to, you can opt out.

Once all the work on the Silver Award is complete, you complete and submit the Silver Award Report Form.  This form will be reviewed by the Teen Program Specialist.  If there are any problems or concerns, you’ll be contacted. Otherwise, you will receive a letter of congratulations and be invited to join us on May 3rd for this year’s Gold and Silver Award Celebration.  This process may take 3-6 weeks, so please be patient.

Ok, Ok….But What About the Project?
Silver Award projects do not have to be approved by council but Silver Award Intent Forms must be submitted to the Teen Program Specialist prior to beginning your project.  Group Advisors or Silver Award consultants are in charge of monitoring girls’ progress.  Adults who are working with girls on the Quest for Silver need to make sure all girls follow Safety-Wise and money-earning standards.  Remember, as Girl Scouts, girls cannot raise money for another organization as a part of a Silver Award project.

It is strongly encouraged, although not required, that Silver Award projects reach beyond the Girl Scout Community.  Good Silver Awards projects should go way beyond drives for food, cans, clothing, etc. Think Big!

Are There Deadlines?
The only deadline is the completion date.  You have until September 30 following your 8th grade year to finish the Silver Award process. If you wish to be invited to this year’s Gold and Silver Award Ceremony on June 13th, you must have completed your project and turned in all paperwork no later than April 1st.  You can of course be invited to attend next year’s ceremony if you do not make the April 1st deadline.

How Do I Get More Information?
Email info@gscwm.org with questions or visit the Girl Scouts national website to get more details as well as the current Silver Award Information and report form

Better yet, attend the Silver Award Orientation (optional, but strongly encouraged).   6th graders are welcome. The cost is $2.00 per person and girls must attend with an adult (only one adult needs to attend with a group).

Regardless of how you get the info, be sure that you have the most up-to-date information and report forms.  You’ll also need to purchase the “Go For It! Silver Award Insert” from the council store.
