Adult Learning Opportunities and the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience From the very beginning, Girl Scouts has been about developing girls' leadership. Now we're doing it better than ever with national, outcomes-based program activities that are designed to guide girls along a life-long path to… lead with courage when they speak out on issues they care about and take active roles in their communities; lead with confidence when they make the most of their strengths and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives and beyond; lead with character when they act with integrity and compassion, making decisions that promote the well-being of themselves and others; …as they continue to make the world a better place. The New Girl Scout Leadership Experience identifies three “keys” to leadership that replace the four program goals. These are Discover – girls understand themselves and their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world; Connect – girls care about, inspire, and team with others locally and globally; and Take Action – girls act to make the world a better place. The upcoming 2008 – 2009 membership year is a year of continued transition for Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts. We have completed our realignment process and now we begin transforming programs and adult learning opportunities. On these pages, you will find learning opportunities which are offered to assist Girl Scout volunteers as they bring alive the Girl Scout Leadership Experience for the girls. All trainings and workshops are available at no cost to you (with the exception of First Aid and CPR courses), but pre-registration is required. In addition to required trainings, there will be Leadership Mini Courses available. Mini Courses can be brought to a Service Unit or any other gathering of volunteers. We will also host conference calls, round tables and other flexible methods to bring information to you. What Types of Training are There? Classroom This traditional style of training is led by volunteer council facilitators at various locations throughout the council's geographic area. The benefits to this type of training include being able to discuss the content with other leaders and get expert feedback from the experienced facilitator. Online Training Online training is a self-paced PowerPoint slide show complete with sound that walks you through the training. In order to view this training, you must have PowerPoint installed on your computer. If you do not have PowerPoint, you will need to download a free copy of Power Point Viewer in order to view the presentation. Home Study Courses Home study courses are written training manuals. Once you have completed reading through the material, you will complete and submit the home study exam, registration form and the course evaluation, either online or via US mail. Upcoming Training Opportunities To learn about the training programs offered this fall, visit the Required Training and Optional Training pages. To register for any of the courses, visit the Registration page. |
