What do Girl Scouts do?
The answer is almost anything a girl would like to do! The primary way that girls participate in the Girl Scout program is through troop programming. If girls are unable to meet regularly with a troop/group, they can instead participate as an individually registered member (also known as a "Juliette"). Whether individually or as a troop, girls can:

• Complete age-level recognitions
• Plan and take trips
• Fund raise - including the Cookie Sale and Fall Product Sale
• Attend Camp
• Perform community service
• Develop leadership skills
• Participate in town and council-wide events

The Girl Scout program is girl-driven, reflecting the ever-changing needs and interests of participating girls. It provides girls ages 5-17 with a wide variety of opportunities and activities available in Girl Scout handbooks, award books, special activity guides, online award programs, and other program resources.


In addition to the resources girls and leaders work from, Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts offers an array of exciting activities and programs geared specifically to our girls. While some take advantage of local resources such as Umass Amherst or the Higgins Armory Museum, others focus on topics which girls have told us are on their "must do" lists, such as camping overnight at Six Flags New England or riding the rapids in Charlemont. Over the coming months, you will see many new, as well as many familiar, program opportunities posted on this website. We encourage troops, individuals and groups to take advantage of these fun and educational experiences. Not only are they exciting, but girls will also have the chance to meet other girls and adults from throughout the council.
