Indoor Overnights
Learn to walk your troop through the process of planning and preparing for an indoor overnight adventure of up to two nights and three days in buildings with heat and electricity, bathroom and kitchen facilities (i.e. church, museum, aquarium or winterized camp buildings). Understand what procedures and forms are required, determine girl and adult readiness, and learn how to use girl planning in preparing for an overnight. 2 hours; face-to-face training.

Required:  Prior to taking girls on an overnight in a building with heat, electricity and bathroom facilitates
When to Complete: Recommended at least 4 – 6 months prior to the overnight; prior to girls beginning to plan the event
Prerequisite: Prior completion of GSUSA Girl Scouting 101 and Welcome to Girl Scout Leadership recommended
Cost: $8

Outdoor Cooking Skills
Learn essential outdoor cooking-related skills including fire building methods, charcoal and camp stove cooking, outdoor dish-washing and sanitation methods, Leave No Trace principles, basic knots and jackknife safety. Enjoy the hands-on experience of cooking a meal using different fuel sources and equipment. 4 hours; face-to-face.

Required:  For volunteers whose troops are planning on preparing food using outdoor cooking methods This course is also required to build wood fires in indoor fireplaces or wood stoves.
When to Complete: Recommended at least 4 months prior to the outdoor cooking event; prior to girls beginning to plan the event
Prerequisite: GSUSA Girl Scouting 101

Outdoor Overnights
Learn how to guide girls in planning an overnight adventure of up to two nights and three days, sleeping in platform tents or non-winterized buildings. Gain valuable information and skills related to program ideas, planning, safety, and addressing environmental concerns related to outdoor camping. Understand what gear is needed for a trip as well as the care and use of tents. Discuss girl and adult readiness, outdoor cooking progression, camp kapers, environmental best practices and more. Practice essential outdoor cooking-related skills, including a variety of cooking methods.  Includes meal and camp site costs. 1 night, 2 days. Face-to-face.

Required:  Prior to taking girls on an overnight outside-using platform tents or non-winterized buildings.
Timeline: Recommended at least 4 – 6 months prior to the overnight
Prerequisite: Prior completion of Outdoor Skills and Indoor Overnights

Outdoor Cooking Skills & Outdoor Overnights Together
This training covers the essentials any leader needs to know before taking a group on an overnight trip. Learn the values of outdoor living and how to prepare for overnight camping, including outdoor cooking progression, camp kapers, environmental best practices and more.  Plus, learn and practice outdoor skills such as fire building, simple outdoor cooking, dressing for the weather, tying knots, using pocket knives and performing minor first aid.

Required:  Prior to taking girls on an overnight outside-using platform tents or non-winterized buildings and cooking outdoors.
Timeline: Recommended at least 4 – 6 months prior to the overnight
Prerequisite: Prior completion of Indoor Overnights

All-In-One
This two-night, three-day session (including two nights in platform tents or non-winterized cabins) covers the information from the Indoor Overnights, Outdoor Cooking Skills and Outdoor Overnights trainings. Meals and camp site costs are included. 2 nights, 3 days; face-to-face.

Learn about: GSCWM’s policies and procedures regarding camp site rentals, Leave No Trace principles, the proper care and use of tents, and the best gear for your trip. Learn how to plan, budget, and safely prepare food using both indoor and outdoor cooking methods. You will gain hands-on experience preparing food using a variety of different fuel sources and equipment such as one pot, box oven, Dutch oven, and pie irons. Other essential food preparation skills include: basic knots, jackknife safety, and outdoor dish-washing and sanitation methods as discussed in safety activity checkpoints.

Required:  Prior to taking girls on any overnight, cooking outdoors or using fireplaces or wood stoves
Timeline: Recommended at least 4 – 6 months prior to the overnight or cooking experience
Prerequisite: GSUSA Girl Scouting 101
Cost: $45

Big Trips
This course is for adult volunteers in Cadette, Senior and Ambassador troops wanting to plan an extended trip of three nights or more. You will gain the necessary skills to guide your girls through the process of planning, budgeting, and reviewing safety requirements and transportation needs for a three night or regional or national trip. You will also learn how to help girls gauge their readiness and become familiar with GSUSA’s and GSCWM’s policies and procedures for extended trips.

Required:  For all troop/group leaders, co-leaders, and assistant leaders helping girls plan and carry out overnight trips of 3 or more nights or volunteers whose troops are planning an extended regional or national trip.
Timeline:  It is strongly recommended that the volunteer take this course at least 6-12 months before a domestic trip and 18-24 months before an international trip.
Prerequisite: Completion of New Leader Training, Completion of appropriate Overnight Training.
Cost: $12
