‘Free to be 83′: Girl Scout’s Gold Award project raises awareness of Type 1 diabetes
Arwen E. King, 19, has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 10 years, and she noticed that “a lot of the world talks about Type 2 diabetes, as if that is the only kind of diabetes that exists,” she said. “Nobody really talks about us, and it saddens me.”
So, for her Girl Scout Gold Award project, the member of Troop No. 11267 in Hadley focused on “Free to be 83,” a project title derived from the ideal Type 1 diabetic blood sugar of 83 mg/dL.
